1. Check whether Live is available for your account
OpenAI describes Live as the newer ChatGPT Voice experience. Availability depends on your plan, region, workspace, and app version, so start by checking Settings and the Voice option in ChatGPT.
For developer API access, use OpenAI's official GPT-Live-1 API notification page. This site cannot grant access or provide API keys.
2. Prepare a voice prompt before speaking
A strong prompt should define the role, the task, how long responses should be, whether the assistant should correct you, and what signal means you are ready for a response.
Starter instruction
Please wait until I say "please respond" before answering. If I pause, do not interrupt me. When I ask you to respond, summarize my main point first and then give concise feedback.
3. Start ChatGPT Voice
Open ChatGPT, paste your instructions into the chat, then start Voice. On supported devices, you may need to allow microphone access before the conversation begins.
4. Reduce interruptions during long pauses
Prompting can help, but it cannot guarantee perfect turn-taking. Use a clear trigger phrase, speak in a quieter environment, and avoid playing audio from other speakers near your microphone.
5. Understand GPT Live 1 limitations
Live can support more natural voice interaction, but transcripts may not be exact, usage limits can apply, and supported features vary by account. Always check important information before relying on a voice answer.
